Is a packing slip different from a bill of lading? Yes, in a way those are 2 different documents. A packing list is a packing document that shows the quantity, type, and weight of the goods that are being exported. That information is usually mentioned in the commercial invoice as well. If there is more than 1 type of product, they are usually described in detail or broken down determined by their Harmonized System Code (HS). This type of document is usually created by the company that is doing the packing of the products (not necessarily the seller or the shipping company).

They would want to make sure that the container and packing of the goods or products match the description that is on the list.
